Jovan Belcher, a Kansas City Chiefs’ linebacker, murdered his girlfriend before driving to the team’s headquarters. Once arriving there, he shot himself in front of the team’s general manager and coach. The Belchers’ death orphaned their daughter Zoey. Belcher told his coach and the general manager just before shooting himself that he was unable to get enough help. The autopsy showed that Belcher suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), caused by repeated head traumas from playing football. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy causes depression, aggression, memory loss and confustion.
