Shania Twain’s career was somewhat born out of tragedy, and to say she had a difficult childhood is an understatement. The country singer grew up extremely poor and often witnessed the abuse of her mother at the hands of her stepfather. After young Shania graduated high school her mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident and she was left to take care of her three siblings. She took singing gigs to make ends meet and wrote music in her spare time. Eventually one of Shania’s demos got into the right hands, and a star was born.
