LAVERNE COX
She’s popularly known for her role in the TV drama show Orange Is The New Black. Laverne has won lots of awards and recognitions for her works as a transgender activist. Actually, most of her LGBT peers refer to her as the “trailblazer” for the transgender community. This is after her portrayal as Sophia Burset, a transgender prisoner struggling with the issues of transitioning herself from a man to a woman. Most viewers relate and sympathize with her character in the TV show. Laverne has a twin brother. He’s the one playing the pre-transitioned Sophia or Marcus role in Orange Is The New Black. She also admits to almost committing suicide when she was 11 after being consistently being bullied for “behaving differently”.
